Blog, Comments, Views and Subscribers. Are they really that important?

Hello, My Beauties!

I am sitting here face unwashed with not an ounce of coffee, because I had to share something with you, that I feel is very important to us as bloggers. Comments! Yes we want our little nuggets of advice and our views read and and responded to, but are comments really that important to our blogs? Actually no they aren't.

Blog, Comments, Views and Subscribers. Are they really that important?

They have no value to our blogs rank on any search engine ever, the only person they benefit in anyway is the person commenting, because they can leave a link behind if they choose to do so. What is important however is the view count or how many visits your blog gets. Think about this for a moment. How many websites are out there that get millions of views, but not a single comment?

For instance. lets look at Amazon.com Only after a purchase to you actually comment on this site if you choose to do so. Another big name site is Sephora.com, yes a lot of visits, but not as many comments.

Think about this for a second. The only people who are actually commenting on your blog post are other bloggers and they are just as busy as you are! Yes they are nice and they let me know that I am doing something right, but they aren't what I am going after. I want a high view count and subscribers.

A high view count and subscribers is what will help your blog grow more then anything else out there.
That's where quality blog posts and helpful content come in.

Always try to be helpful or give some type of advice in every post.
Review anything and everything within your niche.
Subscribe to other blogs, comment, etc. and if they are human they will return the favor.
Blogging is a very Karmic thing, what you give is what you receive.

So if you aren't bombarded with comments don't feel bad, look at your view count.
Thats whats important here. And thats what gets your blog out there. The comments will come, right now just concentrate on people hearing or reading your content.

DON'T GIVE UP

Dont give Up

Hello, My Beauties!

Today I want to touch on a subject that hits every one of us every so often, especially in the blogging community. Discouragement. It hits us when things don't go as planned, when we don't get visits,  comments or likes on our instagram photos. So today I want to tell you with a big loud voice,

Monday

So you want to Start a Blogging

Hello, there!

Today I am going to start a series on some questions that are asked often in the blogging community.

Starting a blog is easy, it just takes a few clicks here and there, but I am going to take you behind the scenes and show you some stuff I learned through trial and error without going through the time consuming mistakes.

I do feel this subject is a lot better explained through verbal communication, so let go!

12 Things I learned in 8 months of Blogging.

Okay, so I have been here for a while on the interwebs in the blogosphere and I think I learned some stuff, not much but enough to cover the law and call myself a blogger. Some people say I have accomplished a lot in my short time, however I feel different, like I haven't accomplished enough.

Maybe thats just me, I tend to dive into things and what to absorb every aspect of it in the shortest amount of time. I have many different passions within my life, but blogging is on a whole other level. I wanted to blog since, well a long time around 7 or 8 years ago, but life had other plans for me. So here I am all blogged out with three blogs to manage, one of which is a blog I write on when I am angry with my husband, but as you can see isn't very often. So on to this post.

12 Things I learned in 8 Months of Blogging.

1. No one in your personal life will understand why you blog.

Your family and friends will all ask " why do you blog?" and my favorite "have you made any money yet?!"
Don't do it for no one else but yourself.

2. There are people out there.

Once you find your niche you will come to find out there are a bagillion other people doing the same exact thing you're doing, so sticking out like a sore thumb helps.

3. The Beatles were right.

When they sang  "I get by with a lil help from my friends." You will make friends you never thought you would have while blogging.

4. Privacy? Whats that?

In order to make it as a blogger even a lil one like me, you have to allow people in. They don't want to be preached to by a robot. They want a real person, a person that wakes up at 12 pm and tweets Goodmorning!

5. Shy guy no fly.

You have to get involved, even if it only in online events, trending topics, talk to the weirdos of tweeter, they know people!

6. Regret or forget.

If you have an idea, write it, record it, tweet it, pin it. Just do something with it, if not someone else will.

7. Rat race.

Everyone is trying to do what you are doing, so why not help a fellow while you're on your way up.
If you learned how to do something share it.

8. Ch, Ch, Changes!

I love that song! Don't think you have to stick with one type of look on your blog, You like to change your clothes everyday right? well your blog likes to be spruced up a bit too.

9. Friendly inspirations.

In a slump? Good that means your doing something right! When you're in a slump, go blog hopping, YouTubing and you will be inspired when you least expect it, especially from blogging friends.

10. Pictures speak a thousand words.

Use your own damn pictures!

11. Watermark everything.

This is on account of number 10.

12. Take advantage of the word free.

Anything thats free and available online master it, image editors, button generators etc.

There is more but I am tired now and this laptop is burning my thighs, so I am going to make some sleep now. If you would like me to continue let me know. Good night.

You know your a beauty blogger when...

Sometimes when I am running around the house like a mad woman in sweat pants and my hair in a knot dealing with the cleaning, cooking, laundry, kids, phone calls and everything else the day throws at me, I sometimes catch my reflection in the mirror and I always ask myself the same question "Am I a Beauty Blogger?" I mean, who wants to hear the woman covered in a mixture of boogers, fabric softener and tomato paste talk about the new eye shadow palette?

So I sat down and went through this is my head and seriously asked myself this question.

You know your a Beauty Blogger When... themakeupsquid.com

Here are a few of my thoughts on what makes me a Beauty Blogger.

  • You get really excited when its your turn to make a drug store run.
  • Your favorite aisle at the market is the beauty aisle.
  • You ask to be left alone while your in your favorite beauty store.
  • You want to swatch anything and everything.
  • You give advice while shopping at your favorite beauty store.
  • You find new ways to take photos of beauty products.
  • When you come up with a Title before a actual post.
  • You start reviewing everyday items in your head.
  • Beauty sales become very, very important.
  • You try to keep your products in as close to new condition as possible.
  • You get anxious when you know you haven't posted in a while.
  • You know when IMATS is coming to your area.
  • You have gained a new respect for unknown brands.
  • You learned that cheap products can be just as great as expensive.
  • Daylight has become your best friend.
  • You have learned things about photography you wouldn't normally.
  • You watermark everything you post.

Okay, so that's what I think. What about you? What would you add to this list?

Life Lived Beautifully

So I changed my banner on my beauty blog again www.themakeupsquid.com, I guess this is what I get for having photo shop at my disposal.

I wanted something a little less harsh then the blackness of the previous banner.
I also changed my social Icons to just text instead of the images, to many colors. It seemed like it didn't have any direction. What this post is really about is the motto I chose.

Life Lived Beautifully.

Life is not perfect, but it still can be beautiful.
This I feel is up to us, we can allow bad things to take over and swallow us up whole or we can allow it to shape and form us, but never penetrate us to the point of destruction.

Life doesn't even have to be lived well, I don't have to live in a mansion or have a fancy car to live beautifully.  I can live beautifully anywhere life puts me. I make my life, no one else has say in that. Just me.

I can allow things to get to me or I can over come them and make them my lessons not my future.

If your in a ugly room, make it beautiful.
You have a ugly car, make it shabby chic.
you have ugly clothes, give them to goodwill and buy some while your there.

It's all how you see it and I choose to make it beautiful.

widgets Every Blog Should Have

Widgets every blog should have interwebschic.blogspot.com

Widgets are a very important part of any blog, they help people share your content, they allow people to follow you on social networks, they can even help people find your older posts without going through your archives.

I have a few favorite widgets that I use and both of my blogs.

Here is a list of widgets every blog should have.

Follow buttons:

These are very important as they allow your readers to actually connect with you and see you aren't just words on a screen. My favorite sight for a simple follow icon bar like the one on my blogs comes from Addthis.com they have many widgets to choose from which are actually overlays on your blog and can go where ever your reader go as as long as they are on your site.

links:

There is a great widget that places up to 5 previous posts from your blog, they are applied in the perfect place at the end of each post so that your reader can continue reading your great content. Linkwithin.com

Share buttons:

Now this is the most important of all widgets, the glorious share widget. Sharethis.com has a great and simple to install. This widget can be customized to your liking and is placed at the bottom of every post so that your  readers can share your content from anywhere. Sharing is caring after all.

YouTube:

If you have a Youtube channel and post your videos on your blog you don't want your readers to leave your blog to subscribe to you, they could get lost in there and you lost your new subbie. The best way to do this is place a place subscribe button in the side bar of your blog. its a little tricky to install but so worth it, I promise :) YouTube Subscribe button scroll down the page to the configure button section then go from there.

Call to action:

This is the most Important of all and it ain't even a widget! After someone reads your post, comments, shares and likes it. Then what? Place a call to action at the bottom of every post.
Make it personal, make it unique, make it you.

I hope this helps :)
Keep writing. If you write, they will read.

How to create a favicon

makeupbeautyandme.blogspot.com
makeupbeautyandme.blogspot.com

Whats a favicon?

A Favicon is the little graphic on your page tabs on your favorite browser, they are also listed right next to the names of the links in your favorites.

This is a good form of branding, Look at my favicon on my page tab, its that little pink bow :).

every brand needs a favicon, I mean we all the the blogger icon right? That orange B, or that blue G from the Google home page. Well you want one too right?

I am going to show you how to make one of those awesome little icons for your own blog or website.

First you need an image this image can be anything you want it to be, but it must be a even square.
500x500, 1000x1000, as long as it is even it will work.

You can make one yourself if you like but it isn't necessary. You can take your blog button and turn it into a favicon or your face if you like.

I went through a google images and did a search for royalty free png. graphics and found my bow.

png. is the best file format as it is a transparent graphic.

once you have found your image go to

1. click import image
2. choose your file
3. click the shrink to square icon option
4. Click upload

Now you are going to see a bad pixelated version of your image, don't panic.

Click the download button and save the ico file to your machine.

Now log into your blogger account and go to your layout page. and on the top left corner
you will see a favicon widget thingy. Click it and upload your file!

This will take a few minuets to show up on your page, but its there I promise.
I added my blog to my favorites and i shows my favicon right next to my page name I love it!!

I hope this help! if you need any more help please let me know, Good Luck!

Your Keywords and how to use them

Content is the biggest draw to your blog so, write, write and write some more. Just make sure your content focus is on your keywords or keyword phrase.

www.makeupbeautyandme.blogspot.com
makeupbeautyandme

Keyword "makeup" Keywords phrase " how to apply makeup".

Make sure your content is useful within your niche.
Bring your content to your page on a regular basis or somewhat regular basis. this will help your rankings as new content refreshes your standing with search engines.

Links should use your key keyword phrase. If your target in the link is "pink blush" then your link should be "pink blush" instead of a "click here" link.

Place keyword phrases appropriately in text links, image ALT attributes and even your domain name.

People always ask about their labels for their blog posts. There is just one problem here.
Labels "keywords" in blogger are only for your blog itself and has nothing to do with search engines, they help the reader navigate your blog.

The top keywords for beauty bloggers niche.
Makeup, Beauty, Makeup Tips, Cosmetics, Make Up, Beauty Products.

My YouTube channel updates!

Hi Everyone! I hope all your holidays are going well!

I recently joined a Facebook group called YouTube beauty gurus.
I left a message on the board introducing myself and my channel and I got 8 new subbies from their in the first few minuets after my post.

I now stand at 181 YouTube subscribers. My channel is youtube.com/themakeupsquid
Check it out and sub if you can I always sub back.

I am unsure what the invitation process is but I am sure they are accepting new members, it a great group and they are very supportive so far.

They do have some group rules though, Saturday and Sunday are the only days you can promote your channel in the group. The rest of the week they exchange ideas and tips for your channels so definitely check them out. YouTubeBeautyGurus.

Also I had a mix up with BlogHer.com They are a blogging network for women. I copied one of my recent posts to their site and it was blocked for spam or what they thought was spam. I thought is was about my post. The subject matter of the post was wearing makeup while doing the nasty. And I thought they blocked it for that reason, but it was a system thing, We got it all straightened out and my account was reinstated.
This is a great site to connect with other bloggers and they have amazing women giving great advice on anything from family to blogging. BlogHer.com

I tried to add livefyre to my blog, Livefyre is a commenting system just like Disqus. I really hate the Google/Blogger commenting system and want to change but I don;t know much about code to add it without screwing anything up, so I am going to stay with blogger comments with everything turned off. Livefyre.com

So those are my updates for this week.
