A day in the life of The Makeup Squid

So, I am sitting here face washed, P.J's on, kids sleeping editing a video on a review I did for a YouTube video and I went over my day in my head. With all the craziness that it entailed and all the special moments that snuck in here and there.

I curled my hair this morning trying to get some life into it.

I filmed three videos in one fell swoop, yay me :)

Had some coffee with my honey, Did I ever tell you I can't order coffee at StarBucks! I just describe what I want to the Barista and they tell me the name, but I always for get it hehe:)

It was cold today my eyes watered all day and I think I am allergic to latex, everytime I wear lashes my eyes get watery, so I have to find a latex free lash glue, any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is me doing my best Pee Wee Herman impression, I have a three year old, so you know.

This was alans first time at StarBucks, He spilt his hot chocolate at the pick up counter and they gave him a replacement saying Oh, know I split my coffee, shhh we ain't telling him its cocoa.

He has the best expressions.

The only guy I know who drinks coffee (Hot Cocoa) with a straw.

So good had to snap it twice :)

My daughter, who made me bring her back to the StarBucks because 

she couldn't believe I went without her.

She had to pose for this one because, she wants to be fabulous and skin care has become her new obsession. Apparently all the fabulous people go to StarBucks.

Well that was my Sunday, it was a good day.

E.L.F Cosmetics Lipsticks Review

On a recent trip to the Dollar General I went browsing through the cosmetics aisle for a nail file and found these E.L.F Lipsticks and I picked them up, of course they were a dollar apiece, but come on, look at those colors :)

Elf lipsticks Voodoo (Left) Fearless (Right).

Elf Lipstick in the color Voodoo Looks like a deep Mauve color, But actually swatches more salmon color.

Elf Lipstick in the Color Fearless looks like a Vibrant rich red, but actually swatches a deep fuschia.

Final verdict:

For a dollar these are really great lipsticks and they have good staying power, Almost stain like.

The packaging is on the cheap side very similar to the W&W lipsticks that don't snap shut.

They are currently out of stock on the elf website, but they are at Dollar General.

7 tips that will save your brows

We have all done it, you know what I am talking about. We over plucked our eyebrows to the point of no return. Either pencil thin or complete chunks missing, young or old it didn't look good.

Over the years I have had my battles with my brows thick and thin and as I got older and learned from my mistakes, I have learned what not to do, to my brows and that brings us to this post.

Tip 1. Shape

Find a eyebrow shape that suits your face, sometimes what we want isn't always best for us.

Tip 2.  Plucking

If your going to pluck, start with just a clean up first. Stray hairs only, then decide if you NEED to proceed.

Tip 3.  Time

When plucking,  pluck one hair at a time and look at your eye brow from a distance.

Tip 4. Point of View

When your plucking or filling  in always and I repeat ALWAYS look away for a bit every so often, then look at your brows. You may like what you see.

Tip 5. Growth

If you are trying to grow your brows out don't apply moisturizer or lotion to your brows. Most moisturizers thin facial hair out and we don't want this for our brows.

Tip 6.  Oil

Olive oil applied every so often to your brow area will promote growth, if you have over plucked.

Tip 7. Filling in

Find a fill in method that works for you, pencil, gel, powder, etc. Do what you are comfortable with and gives you the best results for you and your brows.

So I will leave you with this. If our eyes are the windows to our souls, then Eyebrows are the gates.
Remember our brows are sisters not twins.

Google Adsense updating your address to get verified.

Okay so I have had my Google Adsense account for a while now, but I never verified it and have moved since the time I created the account. Now that I am ready to verify it, I went to the verify page and it showed my old address. After updating my address in my profile, it still showed my old address in the verify address section.

I got scared because Google only gives you a limited amount of tries to verify and each one takes weeks if not months to complete and I didn't want to mess anything up so I went on a interwebs search and found out that my tax info needed to be updated to the current address. After making the changes I  noticed it did not update in the verify section. So I let it sit for a couple of days thinking it would update later.

No good. So I finally gave up and said I am clicking that damn verify button and let the chips fall where they may. To my surprise once I clicked the button an message popped up asking me if my address was current.

So bottom line is google won't update the address until you hit that button. So verify all you want :)
Google should have a note beside the verify button letting you know what will happen instead of leaving you in limbo.

BareMinerals MarelousMOXIE Lip Gloss

On a recent trip to Sephora, to pick up my birthday gift and to redeem my VIB points, This Lip Gloss caught my eye. I havent heard anything about it, so I thought I would give it a try.

This was my hundred point perk that Sephora offered. The packaging is very cute and good quality.

The applicator is the flat doe foot type.

I was very surprised by this shade. It actually gives off great color and feels great on the lips, none of that sticky nonsense. The color Maverick is a soft mauve/coffee type color with the tiniest gold flecks.

Application was smooth and it has a soft minty feel on your lips, as the day goes on it will lose its shine, but not its color, so I will say it is somewhat of a lip stain.I rarely go for glosses, but I do like this formula.

LoveJoy MAC/NARS Blushes Face Off!

So I was going through my stash and I found this Nars blush called LoveJoy that I wore a lot a while back and I was just admiring it and reminding myself that I should start wearing it again. Then I reached for one of the few MAC products I own and noticed they were very similar in shade, turning it over I come to find out they are both called LoveJoy. So here we are!

I am going to put these to blushes in a face off and see who comes out the victor.

As you can see they are very similar in hue. I love this color, its a nice copper brown with gold flakes.

The MAC has a lot more flakes and has a tougher texture.

The NARS blush has less gold flakes and is velvety soft to the touch.

Swatches side by side you can clearly see the difference in the two LoveJoy blushes.

Blended out you can see that the MAC is the warmer of the two, but NARS is a more sheer coverage.

The fact that you can actually see the product through the packaging, makes reaching for it easier.

NARS well known matte rubber type packaging screams luxury and is very slim, 

great for on the go touch ups.

Final verdict

It really all depends on the look you will be going for.

MAC offers high glam, while NARS offers a classic look.

I personally don't like a lot of glitter in a blush since I have had acne issues and this only drew attention to my acne. But since my acne isn't that big of an issue any more KNOCK ON WOOD! I will reach for it when the need arises for a blush with a high amount of shine.

I like the texture of the NARS blush, I am glad I found it again. I don't have any complaints on this blush.

The feel, the coverage and pigmentation are everything you would expect from a high end product.
